June 10 is an important anniversary for the development of democracy in South Korea. It is with this significant anniversary in mind that I want to consider the importance of what is happening in South Korea on this June 10, 2008
I visited South Korea in April and early May this year. I found that my friends and colleagues were seriously thinking about the problem they saw with their current government and what to do about it. They felt that the government under the new president was going off on its own without any regard for the people. I had several conversations with different friends who were trying to understand what democracy means, and whether there was a model for South Korea to look to as it develops its democratic society.
