The Greatest five minutes in sports. Ever

von zeev avrahami

I really wanted to write about something else. I think it was about falafel and integration or something about shopping at Obi, but then I read about the Champions League draw and it took me back 11 years ago,  to one early and glorious summer  day in Barcelona, one of the happiest days of my life.

  1. Oh you had to post this and I had to watch!

But it WAS a brillant moment in soccer and even sport history, as painful as it was to a lot of german soccer history.

The FCB was just trying to cover up and weather the storm but those guys from Manchester were clearly the better team, by a looong way.

Maybe the bazis learned from that game?

    We’ll see, can hardly wait.

Have a nice weekend, here in Kiel it’s a bit grey-grey

    Tschüß^^

    Claus

  2. hello Zeev…why was it one of the happiest days of your life?

P.S. I am and always have been a Bayern Munich fan SO BE CAREFUL

  3. Me too!! ;-)

  4. Thank you Claus, here in Berlin it is grey and rainy….
I thank the Bayern defense is a disgrace. They had to have a favor from the referees to get over Fiorentina. I don’t think they stand a chance against Manchester. But i think in 1999 they were better than ManU but ManU was on a mission from God.

  5. Matthias: Until the 1990′s I was very depressed person. You know what happened in the 90′s? Sir Alex came to coach my favorite club in the world, my first true love. I was in Barcelona and despite the fact that Bayern was better and despite the fact that there was time left, we just knew that we are going to win this game, and I can wish to anyone, sports fan or not, to have this five minutes of euphoria we had there.

So I am not against Bayern, even though it was a pleasure to see them today in Frankfurt, almost a repeat :-)

  6. hello Zeev. The next Champions League game between ManU and Bayern should be a great one…I would like to invite you for a beer(bavarian) and good falafel, and then we can discuss football philosophy

    Matthias

  7. I am going to be in Munich.

  8. ai, Zeev is going to Munich.
I will be there, too. :-)

  9. Ha ha!

  10. Oh wow, I am watching ManU vs. FC Bayern right now, its the 57th minute and what is going on?

This pairing seems to spark magic, and we got at least another 35 minutes to go.

zeev, I hope you can watch this live, too.

    Have a good night :)

  11. Claus, very disappointing match, but Bayern is very tough team mentally.

  12. I see it similar. Most of Munich’s magic was 1st those brutes like van Voyten doing their usual chopping at the other team’s forward players, a disgrace. Just 2nd Robben and Ribéry and Olic were making a difference, but they war far from the brilliance of the Mannchester team.

I guess we could say that we have a team for Munich that is as classicaö german as the teams of the past that rather work the other team down and grasp the fruits when there are weaknesses.

  13. Claus,

It was a typical German “win”, like the 1990 national team. The only difference is that this team is not German!! (or rather, not led, in talent and heart, by Germans)

  14. A little anecdote abou tthe finals in 1990: It was my birthday – and full moon. Ans my friends found it very funny to give me a german flag including the ‘federal eagle’ in the middle, the modern one, mind you, not the nazi version.

When the game was through we went to Kiel, I was livin in a snmall town south.

A buddy and me had that flag nailed to a broomstick with us and held up our thumbs. In not even a minute we were invited in a car and offered a beer.

In Kiel my buddy made a crazy mistake and went short of being beaten to the ground when he had to throw up and used my flag to wipe his mouth.

I managed to yell that he was my retarted brother and this did the trick but he surely won’t do that again^^

A mad evening, but the game was really so-so.
