Die Wunder des Internet: kur vor WM-Beginn hatte ich hier einen kurzen Text über englische WM-Songs geschrieben und dabei vor allem auf einen Song einer kleinen englischen Band namens Hyperbowl aufmerksam gemacht, die wunderbar pavementesquen Alt.Country-Rock zu selbstironischstolzem Text spielen. Nachdem mich der Sänger daraufhin angeschrieben hat und mir den Song auch noch als mp3 zusandte, wollte ich das der werten Leserschaft nicht vorenthalten. Erstaunlich prophetisch nehmen sich übrigens einige Textstellen aus: “We’ve still got a shit goalie” und “They are a bunch of total pricks / Unlike in 1966” fallen dabei besonders auf. Gerade deshalb muss spätestens wenn Deutschland in der K.O.-Runde gegen England spielt, alle eh den Text eh memoriert haben: “One nil to England! / One all to Germany / We know they’re going to win on penalties”…
