Früher waren der hippe Produzent und die Poprevoluzzerin ein kongeniales Paar, doch spätestens seit dem letzten M.I.A.-Album fliegen die Fetzen. Zwar hat Diplo noch drei Tracks von “Maya” produziert, doch am Rest findet er wenig Gefallen, wie er seit einem Vierteljahr immer wieder kund tut. Ein Best Of…

Begonnen hatte alles mit einem Präalbumrelease-Tweet auf Diplos Twitter-Account:

“just listened to mastr of the MIA album.. WOW.. my 3 trax are slammin! dunno bout the rest-sounds like skinny puppy & gives me nightmares”

…auf dem er auch auf die Frage eines Twitter-Followers antwortete, warum er nur drei Tracks des neuen Albums produziert habe und einer der Songs mit dem Sound einer Klospülung endet:

“cuz rest of album is a turd.”

… etwas beredter äußert er sich auf die Frage des Black Book Magazins, warum das neue M.I.A.-Album eher verhalten aufgenommen wurde:

“I think that the record was like—she didn’t care about it. I was in the studio with her, she didn’t write anything. Me and Switch (sein Produzentenkollege, Anm.) tried our best to be quality control of the record and she didn’t want that. (…) All she has is a bunch of yes men around her and they kinda suck. (…) She like, retired because she married a dude and she didn’t care about music. She only did it again because “Paper Planes” did blow up in the end. It gave her a second wind, but she didn’t have any hunger anymore. She already got a full table.”

… um die gute Paper-Planes-Sängerin dann in einem Interview mit Inthemix als “psycho fucking bitch” zu bezeichnen:

“When M.I.A. first came up she was a nobody, but I didn’t think about how much money I could get from her or what was the most clever thing I could do at that moment, I thought that she was a really cool girl and I wanted to help her do some music, Y’know, then she totally sucked and she’s a crazy psycho fucking bitch now, but back when I met her I was excited about it.”

… was nur kurz nach einem Tweet an M.I.A. folgte, in dem er die Begleichung offener Rechnungen einforderte:

“@_m_i_a please stop leaking the songs you didnt pay me for… “
