Adam Ant war mit drei Nummer-1-Singles (“Stand & Deliver”, “Prince Charming” & “Goody Two Shoes”) einer der kommerziell erfolgreichsten Künstler, der der Post-Punk-Bewegung der End70er entsprungen ist. Sowohl stilistisch als auch musikalisch war Adam Ant dabei richtungsweisend: sein Auftreten beeinflusste maßgeblich das New Romantic Movement der frühen 80er und der Einbau von Tribal-Drums in seine New-Wave-Songs öffnete die britische Musik noch einmal für ganz neue Einflüsse. Anfang des Jahres erschien das erste Adam-Ant-Album seit 18 Jahren, die Gespreizt- und Affektiertheit immer noch intakt, wie ein kurzer Blick auf den Albumtitel zeigt: “Adam Ant Is the Blueblack Hussar in Marrying the Gunner’s Daughter”.
Wir haben ihm heimische Bands vorgespielt und sind gespannt, ob der godfather of new romantic Gefallen an Dirk von Lowtzow, Andreas Spechtl et al findet!

The sound of teenage urgency through angular guitar stabs and staccato piano chops. The minimal one-take video, with it’s suppressed energy, is to be applauded, and makes you keen to see them live. Particularly liked the razor guitar solo and tempo change in the middle. Good clean production, you can hear everything!

Powerful in it’s simplicity.
The drumming style reminded me of my old mate, Kenny Morris, the original drummer with Siouxsie and the Banshees. Good, simple chord sequence and haunting echo vocals. A band that Andy Warhol may have invited to play at a Factory party, in the late 1960’s. Cool looking boys destined to be a hit with the girls.

Look out! Where are we? Haven’t heard a syn-drum since the late ’70’s. This jolly post-punk stomp reminiscent of the Gang Of Four and Pop Group. Enjoyed the fresh live feel of the recording and what sounded like a James Chance saxophone solo.
I could see this causing quite a stir on the dance floor, a welcome release from the sample hungry productions of today. The artwork is pretty cool, as well. Congratulations!

I enjoyed this track very much indeed. It’s a tall order doing a spoken word song but it never gets boring with it’s throbbing muscular baseline, smashed up by delicious feedback. Reminded me of early Jesus and Mary Chain. Also impressed with the singers meticulous quiff and his striking resemblance to the French actor Vincent Cassell. Wunderbar!

This one really passes the Old Grey Whistle Test, I’ve been singing it all afternoon.
A tidal wave of post – apocalyptic energy, driven by dislocated vocals from a damaged Bryan Ferry.

Hier kommt bei mir immer ein bisschen ein Wetten-Dass-ähnliches Gefühl von Fremdscham auf, wenn Leute, die kein Wort Deutsch verstehen mit so Sachen konfrontiert werden, die sie kaum einordnen können : )
