Neue Bands und wichtige Filme: „As long as the music’s loud enough, we won’t hear the world falling apart“.

Interpol sind wieder da, ein Mann weniger aber still standing in Nebel und Gegenlicht. Eine Band wie gemacht für den hiesigen Geschmack, der schon immer seine Gitarrenbands am liebsten gloomy und leicht gothic hatte. The Cure, Depeche Mode oder später Placebo – nirgends so groß wie in Deutschland. In der Post-Strokes-Zeit erlebten auch die New Yorker Nachbarn Interpol mit ihrem sehr guten, von Joy Division beeinflussten Debütalbum “Turn On The Bright Lights” ihren Durchbruch und sind heute wohl hierzulande gar um einiges publikumswirksamer als die Strokes selbst. Nach vier Jahren Pause erscheint in dieser Woche nun das fünfte Album und angesichts der Chartentwicklung (2002: – / 2004: #47 / 2007: #16 / 2010: #13) darf man gespannt sein, ob die erste Top-Ten-Platzierung vor der Tür steht.

Neben der eigentlichen Plattenveröffentlichung ergibt sich aus dem My Favourite Records Fragebogen mit Schlagzeuger Sam Fogarino auch noch ein weiterer passender Anlaß für diese Lieblingsplattenliste, findet sich doch einigermaßen überraschend, aber passend zur am Wochenende stattfindenden Blumfeld-Reunion-Tour ein alter “L’Etat Et Moi”-Song von Distelmeyer & Co als “best german record ever” in der Aufzählung wieder!
