Monarchie & Alltag

Neue Bands und wichtige Filme: „As long as the music’s loud enough, we won’t hear the world falling apart“.

Mehr über diesen Blog

In einem Interview mit den New York Daily News gibt Keith Richards einen grumpy old man par excellence und verteilt Breitseiten in alle Richtungen.

Über Metallica und Black Sabbath:

“Millions are in love with Metallica and Black Sabbath, I just thought they were great jokes.”

Über andere Rockbands:

“It sounds like a dull thud to me. For most bands, getting the syncopation is beyond them. It’s endless thudding away, with no bounce, no lift, no syncopation.”

Über Rap:

“Rap — so many words, so little said. What rap did that was impressive was to show there are so many tone-deaf people out there, all they need is a drum beat and somebody yelling over it and they’re happy. There’s an enormous market for people who can’t tell one note from another.”

Über andere Gitarristen:

“Why don’t you just shut up and let the fucking thing groove. That’s the problem with most guitar players. They can’t shut up. They’re playing fantastic stuff but if you don’t give it some room, you’re not going to appreciate it. It becomes a ‘me-me’ ego.”

Über Sgt. Pepper von den Beatles:

“I think they got carried away. Why not? If you’re the Beatles in the ’60s, you just get carried away – you forget what it is you wanted to do. You’re starting to do Sgt. Pepper. Some people think it’s a genius album, but I think it’s a mishmash of rubbish, kind of like Satanic Majesties – Oh, if you can make a load of shit, so can we. When it got to (seeing the guru) Maharishi (in ’67), I gave up.”

Wo bleibt dann meine Musik? Ergo: Is mir schnurz, was Keith Richards so sagt.
