Die niederländisch-türkische Psych-Rock-Band ist sicherlich eine der ungewöhnlicheren Erfolgsgeschichten der letzten Jahre. „Goca Dün“ von 2018 hat in der Zwischenzeit beeindruckende 31 Millionen Streams allein auf Spotify angesammelt, das ist beispielsweise das Vierfache des populärsten Tocotronic-Songs. Altin Gün kombinieren traditionelle türkische Volkslieder und den Andalou Rock der 70er mit einer Psych-Rock-Ästhetik und sind vor allem für ihre mitreissenden Liveshows bekannt. Gerade ist ihr sechstes Album „Garip“ erschienen.

Kind of depends on you definition of punk but here are a couple of songs that came to mind : )

Chitra & Suky Akkal – Aaja Meri Barbaad Mohabbat
I love the combination of the driving electronic accompaniment with the melancholic beautiful melodies
* Your favourite song lyrics?
Lyrics are usually not my focus when I listen to music but I always loved singing „It’s All Over Now (Baby Blue)“ when I was still playing in a sixties cover band
* The best “new” artist / band right now?
I really like Reymour from Switzerland
Their sound is kinda moody 80’s wave but they bring it in a very refreshing way. Strong melodies and nice low fi production. Sounds very honest to me

Lesley Gore – You Don’t Own Me
* Your favourite song last year?
I kinda re-discovered Björk last year and played her songs Isobel over and over again
* Your favourite movie about music – and why?
Dig! (2004) by Ondi Timoner
Really fascinating characters (The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Dandy Warhols). She also picked the perfect moment to start filming this documentary because so much stuff started happening for both bands.
* Your favourite Turkish artist/band?
Selda Bağcan. Her 1976 self titled album was my introduction to Turkish folk rock and I’m still blown away by it
* The best song you’ve ever written / recorded?
Altın Gün – Ordunun Dereleri
Not written unfortunately but still of our version of this folk song. Composer is unknown
* Your favourite German song/record?
A very obvious choice maybe but The Man Machine by Kraftwerk is one of my all time favourite records and really shaped me musically. I’ve been listening to that record since I was 6 years old.
A more obscure German favorite of mine is Echo Romeo – Dreams (1986)
* Your favourite record of all time?
To me You’ve Got A Woman by Dutch/German duo Lion is absolute perfection
