The people living in my neighbourhood are people who are always happy, but they dont want a strange to intimidate them or criticize the. Because they are people who get angry easily. They love each other like in a rainbow nation and celebrate each culture in its’ diversity. Each person is welcomed to stay in our heritage country. They treat people equally and with dignity. They dont mind if you are from a rich or poor family.
How do they watch the games? There are different people living in my neighbourhood. All of them have TV. But when watching soccer with others they gather in a secured place. Usually at night. In the community hall for example where police officers are present.
The other day when South Africa played Guatemala before the world cup and won 5:nil I watched it at a nearby shop. My brother had brought a projector from work in the evening, we put up a big white towel and people from all over came in. Around them I feel like a family.
Are there parties after the games? Yes, but they don’t celebrate with alcohol. They celebrate with energy drinks. Most of them are recovering alcoholics. The come with their own drinks and celebrate in the streets. They are helpful people.
Do they have a TV in my neighbourhood? Yes, they do. Old ones. When I asked them why they dont buy new ones, most of them had one answer: The are stronger and do not waste so much electricity. Because after the soapie “Generations” on TV at the bottom of the screen they show that electricity is under pressure. So they do save energy and money.
