Monarchie & Alltag

Neue Bands und wichtige Filme: „As long as the music’s loud enough, we won’t hear the world falling apart“.

Your three favourite Punk singles/songs?

Let’s go for the classics:

** The Ramones – Blitzkrieg Bop – evergreen.
** Sex Pistols – God Save The Queen – first song I even knew how to play.
** Dead Kennedys – California Uber Alles – the soundtrack for my generation’s punk & hardcore kids.

The best band/artist in Norway right now?

Karin Park, an artist I just produced and released domestically on our very own imprint, YAP Records. I guess her album „Ashes To Gold“ reminds you a little bit about the sound of acts like Fever Ray / The Knife, Bat For Lashes, Robyn, Royksopp or Bjork, but more than anything this is a new stellar voice and great songwriter with strong signature and lots of personality. Check her out on mySpace!

Your favourite song by Talking Heads?

Constantly changing, but today let’s say „This Must Be the Place“.

A record that will make you dance?

„My 36 Favorite Punk Songs“ by Jason Forrest.

The best „new“ band right now?

Norwegian newcomer John Olav Nilsen & Gjengen. They sing in the local dialect of our home town and wouldn’t make much sense in Germany, but the lyrics are great honest poetry from the streets of Bergen, combined with high quality songwriting.

…and which band should call it a day?

A-ha.

Your favourite songlyrics?

„There Is A Light That Never Goes Out“ by The Smiths. Same as everyone else I guess.

Your favourite song by Pete Doherty?

„Fuck Forever“. Another classic.

The worst album you bought last year?

Vampire Weekend’s debut. But it’s also one of the better…

Your favourite german song/record?

„Subterranean World“ by Blixa Bargeld & Anita Lane.

Your favourite record of all time?

The Stone Roses‘ debut from 1989.
