„When I hear a band like The Rakes, I realise why I got into music: not to be in a band like The Rakes.
(…)
I don’t understand indie music generally. We’re all about creating an energy; someone like Bloc Party are just putting on a „performance“. When we add an instrument to our sound it’s to bring fresh sonic textures, It’s very deliberate: we just don’t add things for no reason. The Rakes had a keyboard player, but I barely heard any keyboard. There was a guy with a laptop onstage, too, but I’m not sure what it was meant to be for – maybe he was checking his emails.“
