Neuer Termin: 8. November!
– your Top10 Indiepop records?
Songs – John Maus
Knife Play – Xiu Xiu
The Fidelity Wars – Hefner
Oaklandazulasylum – Why?
Bizzaro – The Wedding Present
Dig Yourself – Times New Viking
The Soft And The Hardcore – Tender Forever
Taking The Rough With The Smooch – Huggy Bear
Philophobia – Arab Strap
Twinkle Echo – Casiotone For The Painfully Alone
(for the purpose of this question I have largely ignored the term ‚indiepop‘ and instead just written some records I like that have songs with melodies on them).
– the perfect anthem for Wales?
I’m not Welsh! And I’m not really a fan of national anthems, but when I’ve been in a club in Wales and the lights come on and the DJ plays ‚Motorcycle Emptiness‘ by the Manic Street Preachers, that usually goes down well.
– your favourite protagonist in literature?
Adrian Mole. He was so cute when he was young, such a shame he ended up a Tory.
– your three favourite Punk singles/songs?
Private Buchowski – Kenickie
Dammit – Blink 182
In Accordance To Natural Law – Bikini Kill
– a record that will make you dance?
Silent Shout – The Knife
– your boozed up anthem?
I don’t believe in this. Any music that solely requires being drunk to enjoy isn’t particularly worthwhile in my opinion.
– the last record you bought?
¿Spicchiology? – Xiu Xiu Larsen. And my favourite of the year so far no less
– the worst band around?
I wouldn’t know where to begin.
– a song you wish you’d made yourself?
Come Out 2Nite – Kenickie : this song is the ultimate in teenage abandon and is exactly what any band of 16 year olds should sound like. It also contains God’s own handclaps.
– your favourite record of all time?
Dig Me Out – Sleater-Kinney – equal parts fury and awesome melody. The way that Carrie and Corin’s vocals combine has been beaten by nobody else as far as I can see. This is how guitars should sound, no noodling or boring stuff like that. Just RIFFS!
