In Schweden erschien das Debütalbum der Shout Out Louds bereits 2003, der internationale Markt zog zwei Jahre später nach. Zu Debützeiten war die Band aus Stockholm auch noch bemüht, ihrem Namen alle Ehre zu machen: „Please Please Please“ oder „The Comeback“ passte hervorragend in die späten Ausläufer der Rocknroll-Welle, die die Strokes losgetreten hatten.

Ein weiterer Höhepunkt war 2007 das „Ill Wills“ – Album: ein erwachsenerer, in Teilen überraschend zurückgenommener Sound, der in dem wunderbaren „Blue Headlights“ gipfelte, das an die Folkausflüge von Velvet Underground erinnerte:

Weitere drei Alben später sind die Schweden nun musikalisch in Kalifornien angekommen und schreiben Drivetime-Songs im West Coast – Gewand wie auf dem ersten Track des neuen Albums „Jumbo Jet“:

I misheard a line sung by Lhasa De Sela in Stuart A Staples‘ „That Leaving Feeling“, she sings: „Is that your heart talking, or just your befuddled mind“ but I heard it as: „Is that your heart talking, or just that we fight over mine?“ I thought that was a brilliant lyric. Don’t steal it, I’m gonna use it some day.

* Your favourite Swedish band/artist ever?

Abba, no one else will ever come close.

* The best “new” artist / band right now?

I’m slowly falling in love with a girl called Sarah Klang, check her out.

I don’t know her very well yet, but she gives out this unusually dignified vibe and has an amazing voice.

Say Something Loving by XX, maybe.

* Your favourite book about music?

I loved Pamela Des Barres – I’m With The Band when I read it, so fun. I was really into the groupie perspective on things for a while there.

* The most overrated band/artist?

That’s mean, I won’t answer that. But the most underrated band in the world is us. Hehe.

* The best song you’ve ever written / recorded?

Gah, that’s a tricky question… I only have about three or four songs by Shout Out Louds that I don’t care much for so it’s almost impossible to answer.

So I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that Rain Down On You and There Used To Be Birds on the Astropol album are two songs I actually like listening to even though I’m singing on them.
