Ursprünglich bin ich auf Water From Your Eyes tatsächlich über genau diese Rubrik hier gestoßen, nachdem sowohl das kanadische Art-Punk-Kollektiv Crack Cloud als auch die belgischen Post-Punks Whispering Sons das amerikanische Duo als beste neue Band nominierten: „They seem really free, creatively. I suspect they may sound completely different as time goes by, which is exciting. Vital, even. in so far as art is a self-actualizing process“ (Crack Cloud) bzw. „It’s weird, experimental, yet danceable music. And a great live band“ (Whispering Sons) lauteten die Lobeshymnen. Der New Yorker bricht den schwer zu definierenden Sound der Amerikaner als „too uncanny to be dance-punk, and too lively to be slacker rock“ herunter, was ich auch unterschreiben kann. Nach einer ziemlich interessanten Cover-EP im Vorjahr, die vor allem mit einer faszinierenden Neuinterpretation des alten Chumabawamba-Stampfers „The Good Ship Lifestyle“ glänzte, ist gerade das neueste Album von Water From Your Eyes erschienen.

People by Silver Jews:
„Moments can be monuments to you
If your life is interesting and true
It’s just the same for a man or a girl
The meaning of the world lies outside the worldPeople love people and they understand
If you want to renovate your background mind
A federal woman needs a municipal man
People gotta synchronize to animal timeYou can’t change the feeling but you can change your feeling
About the feelings in a second or two, aha
People always come ‚roundI love to see a rainbow from a garden hose
Lit up like the blood of a centerfold
I love the city and the city rain
Suburban kids with biblical namesPeople ask people to watch their scotch
People send people up to the moon
When they return, well, there isn’t much
People be careful not to crest too soonThe drums march along at the clip of an I.V. drip
Like sparks from a muffler dragged down the strip, aha
I really hope you’ll come around
It’s sunny and 75, it feels so good to be alive“
