Neue Bands und wichtige Filme: „As long as the music’s loud enough, we won’t hear the world falling apart“.

Eine persönliche Freude ist es mir, heute The Rapture im Lieblingsplattenfragebogen des Popblog begrüßen zu dürfen, sind die New Yorker doch dank “House Of Jealous Lovers” für eine der wichtigsten und besten Singles des letzten Jahrzehnts verantwortlich gewesen. Akkordarbeit scheint nicht ihr Ding zu sein, so dass jetzt gerade mal das dritte Album in beinah 15 Jahren Bandgeschichte erschienen ist – aber eben erneut ein sehr gutes Album mit der vielleicht besten Single des Jahres, “How Deep Is Your Love”:

I don’t know any songs by these people. Never gave them a chance really.

I always liked the drummer Gary. Really nice guy.

* The best “new” artist / band right now?

That would have to be Midnight Magic, these kids are superb live. My fav new record is “Eye Contact” by Gang Gang Dance

LCD Soundsystem. Because they are no longer around. I like to miss things.
I also really really like !!!’s bass player Rafael. That guy is incredible.

* The best song this year so far?

Doin’ It All Night All Day by the Omega Mu’s

* The best record DFA has ever released?

Hmmm, I think it would have to be the Juan Maclean/The Rapture split 12″ or the Gavin and Delia Record. Again, how can you expect me to pick just one? Lame! Thankfully I can listen to them all over and over again.

* Your favourite movie about music?

The Gabriel Andruzzi Story: Too Much Music is Never Enough
You gotta see this movie. Not only is it the best music movie, but it’s gotta be the best movie hands down, full stop!

* The most overrated artist?

Peabo Bryson

This is a toss up between Stockhausens- Streichquartett(Helicopter String Quartet), because it is ridiculous and expensive to perform.

* Your favourite record of all time?

Such hyperbolic answers these questions seem to demand. I have a distaste for hyperbole but damn it! You asked for it. The Universe is the best record I’ve ever had the experience of listening to and feeling.
