Volle 30 Jahre nach dem letzten Studio-Album kehrt die legendäre amerikanische US-Queerpunk-Band TEAM DRESCH nun mit einer neu aufgenommenen Platte zurück.
Die aus der DIY-Punk-Szene stammende Band war fundamental für die Riot Grrrl Bewegung. Sängerin Donna Dresch hatte in den 80er zunächst das Fanzine Chainsaw und 1991 das dazugehörige Label Chainsaw Records gegründet, auf dem unter anderem Sleater-Kinney erste Platten veröffentlichten. Hierzulande wurde die Band zudem dank der Tocotronic-Hymne „Die Sache mit der Team Dresch Platte“ vom 96er Album „Wir Kommen Um Uns Zu Beschweren“ auch über den queeren DIY-Punk-Kreis hinaus bekannt:

DD: right now I’m loving the lyrics to our new song “Heard a Bang”
* The best “new” artist / band right now?
Mel: Mannequin Pussy: they just rule, I love the songwriting and drums
Marceo: I’m behind the times, the newest artist/band I got into was boygenius’ 2023 album The Record: the whole package on that album – harmonies, melodies, lyrics, the production, it’s just a really great record !
* Your favourite song about rebellion/revolution?
Mel: Fugazi – Promises
DD: Crass – Fight war not wars: those are the only words and it starts quiet and gets louder and louder.
* Your favourite song this year so far? (or of last year)
Mel: Robyn – Dopamine or Charli XCX – Rock Music
* Your favourite movie about music – and why?
DD: „urgh! A music war“. I saw it when I was young and didn’t know many of the bands but I was captivated. It’s just great live footage of songs by a ton of punk/new wave bands in 1980. It’s by far my favorite concert movies.
Marcéo: I loved the Quincy Jones doc from 2018. He was so prolific!, he was The GOAT !
Mel: On one of my many flights to Portland, I watched „It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley“ documentary. It was really good! I love documentaries so this is very hard to answer! Another one I love but unsure if it fits this category, „Time Square“. Very influential to me and the soundtrack is incredible!
* The best song you’ve ever written / recorded?
Mel: hard to say best but I REALLY love Remember Who You Are
* Sleater-Kinney, Bikini Kill or X Ray Spex – which one do you prefer and why?
DD: Trick question! I put out the first 2 Sleater-Kinney records on my records label, Chainsaw, so they forever are a huge part of my life but
Mel: it is a trick question! Love and prefer Xray spex! They were the groundbreakers for Riot Grrrl music
* Your favourite german song/record?
DD: I mean we can’t not say Tocotronic. They have a song called “Die Sache mit der Team Dresch Platte” that got us more exposure in Germany than anything we could have done ourselves. Thanks Tocotronic!
* Your favourite record of all time?
DD: That’s an impossible question!
