Giant Sand um Howe Gelb sind eine der zentralen Bands der Alt.Country / Americana – Ära und nun schon seit gut drei Jahrzehnten in wechselnden Besetzungen unterwegs. 1986 veröffentlichten Giant Sand ihr Album „Ballad of a Thin Line Man“, das AllMusic schön mit „rough-and-tumble neo-paisley underground rock“ beschrieb, bevor Giant Sand zu einer der zentralen Bands der Americana-Bewegung wurden.
23 Jahre nach der Veröffentlichung schart Howe Gelb nun sein Mitstreiter Tommy Larkins (Schlagzeug) und Thøger Lund (Bass) um sich, um eine Neuinterpretation dieses Albums unter dem Titel „Recounting The Ballads Of Thin Line Men“ zu wagen.

* The best “new” artist / band right now?

I’m out of the loop. You’d have to ask my kids. But we ran into a young artist named Vera Sola on the road that charmed me. She has the goods. In tone and delivery. In spirit and attack. And there’s something clever in her presentation too. She’s young but with great aesthetics. I very much enjoyed her set.

* Your opinion on Morrissey?

Never liked him. Couldn’t relate. He became a representation of the things I liked least about British music. But I like his stance on vegetarianism. Although if he wasn’t popular, no one would care. And I don’t relate to the reasons he is popular. So. Whatev.

Revolution Blues – Neil Young

* Your favourite song this year so far?

The Hard Way – Pieta Brown ( it’s brand new ) .. it sounds the way the 80s should’ve sounded. I would’ve liked the 80s then. But no. The 80s sucked. But Pieta Brown is amazing.
